HERB VINCENT PETERSON | CREATIVE DIRECTOR AND EDUCATOR
Herb Vincent Peterson is an award-winning Multidisciplinary Creative Director, Artist, and Educator. With a background steeped in strategic branding and passions for teaching, community, culture, and communicating beautiful stories, the heartbeat of Peterson's studio practice is at the intersection of Art and Design for Social Good.
Currently working as a high-end boutique studio and with just about 15 years of professional practice, Peterson has been able to work and collaborate with numerous organizations, companies, and brands that we all have grown to love, such as the Guggenheim Museum, The Wexner Center for the Arts, Gap Inc (Old Navy, Gap), Hoosier Lotto, Saturn GM, Kroger Super Markets, Indianapolis Arts Council, Full Circle, Happi Brands, Urban Outfitters, and artists such as Ann Hamilton, Michael Mercil, Susan Stewart and Linda Adele Goodine. Among other things and since 2009, Peterson filled the role of executive director of Open and Build, a not-for-profit design network that was originally started in Columbus Ohio.
Peterson's work has been featured in numerous national and international magazines, books and exhibitions including venues such as, The Wexner Center for the Arts, The Indianapolis Museum of Art, Elizabeth Gallery in London, Art-Basel; Miami, Sean Christopher Gallery; Ohio, Agora; New York, Kuhn Fine Arts Center, and more recently at Jacksson Contemporary Art and the Williams Art Galleries at Indiana Wesleyan University.
A passionate educator and education activist, Peterson has taught design and fine art to numerous students at universities including, Herron School of Art and Design, Ohio Dominican University, The Ohio State University and Indiana Wesleyan University where he currently serves as a professor and coordinator of the Graphic Design program.
Peterson holds a BFA from Herron School of Art and Design where he studied Photography and Visual Communication Design and an MFA emphasizing in interdisciplinary research, focusing on Visual Design and Art Education from The Ohio State University.

Peterson's primary research interests are in the field of design thinking for community based design initiatives, STEM education through design methods for K-12 Educators, Contemporary Design education; specifically how students are shaping the future of design, and an extensive art studio practice that makes work centered on place and home, life and death, and divergence within conversations.
